Pulse Pressure calculator

50mmHg
Normal (25–60 mmHg)
How to use it
- 1
Measure accurate BP. Narrow PP is very sensitive to measurement technique. Use manual sphyg in suspected tamponade.
- 2
Calculate. PP = SBP − DBP.
- 3
Interpret in clinical context. Narrow PP (<25) with hypotension and JVD: tamponade/pericarditis. Wide PP with diastolic murmur: AR.
When to use it
- Suspected cardiac tamponade
- PP <25 mmHg with dyspnoea and JVD — consider pulsus paradoxus measurement.
- Aortic regurgitation assessment
- Wide PP is a clinical sign of significant AR.
- Arterial stiffness research
- PP >60 mmHg in the elderly is an independent cardiovascular risk factor.
