Killip Classification calculator
Result
Class I
~6% in-hospital mortality
How to use it
- 1
Auscultate lung bases. Bibasal crackles = Class II. Crackles >50% fields = Class III.
- 2
Assess haemodynamics. SBP <90 with peripheral shut-down = Class IV (cardiogenic shock).
- 3
Classify on admission. Used as a prognostic tool; also feeds into GRACE/TIMI scores.
When to use it
- ACS triage and risk stratification
- Class III–IV require urgent haemodynamic support, CCU admission, mechanical ventilation assessment.
- Input to other scores
- Killip class is a parameter in GRACE and TIMI STEMI scores.
- In-hospital mortality prediction
- Class IV mortality >80% without intervention; identifies patients for early IABP/Impella/ECMO discussion.
A reference for clinicians and students, not medical advice. A score supports a decision; it does not make one. Check every result against the patient in front of you and your local protocol.
