Mesenteric Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease Mimicking Lymphoma: A Rare Case Report
By Vidya Kuchanur and Ranjana S. Ranade.
Abstract
Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare self-limiting necrotizing lymphadenitis, usually involving cervical lymph nodes. Mesenteric involvement is extremely uncommon and may mimic lymphoma. A 44-year-old male presented with recurrent fever, diarrhoea, weight loss, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and mesenteric lymphadenopathy with hepatosplenomegaly. Histopathology revealed paracortical necrosis with karyorrhexis, crescentic histiocytes, and absence of neutrophils, confirming KFD. This case highlights the importance of histopathology in diagnosing unusual presentations of KFD.
