Abstract
Purpose
To describe the indications, surgical approaches, and outcomes of nephrectomies performed at a public urology department in Senegal, in a resource-limited setting.
Materials and methods
We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, single-centre study at the Urology Department of Pikine National Hospital Centre (CHNP) in Dakar, Senegal, from January 2013 to December 2023. All adults and children who underwent nephrectomy, regardless of indication or procedure type, were included. Data were collected from medical records and operative logs, including demographics, clinical presentation, imaging, indications, surgical approach and technique, early postoperative course, Clavien- Dindo-graded complications, length of stay, and histopathology.
