Abstract
Oral mucositis is one of the main oral complications associated with oncological treatments, especially chemotherapy and radiotherapy, representing a relevant clinical challenge for the dental surgeon. This condition compromises essential functions such as chewing, swallowing and speaking, in addition to causing intense pain and an increased risk of secondary infections. The present study aims to analyze the contributions of low-power laser therapy in promoting quality of life and psychological repercussions in patients with oral mucositis resulting from oncological treatments. This is a systematic literature review, conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) checklist, which included studies published between January 2021 and February 2026, with 26 articles included in the identification phase and 11 studies selected in the final phase. The results demonstrate that low-power laser therapy reduces the severity and duration of injuries, promotes analgesia, accelerates tissue repair and contributes to maintaining the cancer patient's quality of life. It is concluded that integrated dental work based on updated protocols is essential for the effective management of oral mucositis.
