In the Shadow of Smoke and Silence: Understanding Cancer Awareness and Healthcare-Seeking Behavior in Louisiana’s Cancer Alley
By Moumita Roy and Jinx Coleman Broussard.
Abstract
Background/Objectives: Louisiana’s industrial corridor, commonly known as “Cancer Alley,” has been extensively documented as a site of environmental and health inequity. Less is known about how residents understand cancer risk, identify available cancer care, and make decisions about seeking healthcare. This study examined cancer awareness, healthcare-seeking experiences, and communication-related barriers among residents of Cancer Alley.
