Cancer screening as public service delivery: A governance perspective
By Deby Febriyan Eprilianto and Yuyun Eka Kartika Sari.
Abstract
We read with interest the district-wise analysis by Kumar et al 1 , on women's cancer screening uptake in Uttarakhand published in the May 2026 issue of Indian Journal of Medical Research. The study showed low and uneven uptake across districts and a paradoxical pattern in which higher literacy did not necessarily translate into higher participation in screening.1 The authors appropriately call for stronger outreach, primary care integration, mobile screening in hilly areas and community mobilisation. We suggest that these findings also merit a complementary public service delivery and governance interpretation.
