Factors influencing treatment-related symptom clusters in patients with lung cancer: a scoping review
By Fei Yang, Shuying Li, Fei Xie and 5 others.
Abstract
To explore the factors influencing treatment-related symptom clusters in patients with lung cancer using evidence-based methods to provide a basis for future clinical research. Using the scoping review methodology revised by Daudt HM, a comprehensive search was conducted in four Chinese databases (CNKI, Wanfang Data, SVIP Database, and CBM) and four English databases (PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase). The search period ranged from the inception of each database to August 19, 2025. The identified literature was screened, collated, and synthesized using thematic analysis. A total of 15 articles involving three treatment modalities were included. After integration, the factors influencing treatment-related symptom clusters in lung cancer patients under each treatment modality were summarized into the following categories: factors related to general demographic data; factors related to the patient themselves, family, and social psychology; factors related to the disease itself and comorbidities; treatment-related factors; and factors related to blood indicators. The nomenclature of symptom clusters in lung cancer patients under different treatment modalities is currently not uniform, and there are numerous factors influencing symptom clusters caused by related treatments. Future research should standardize the nomenclature to facilitate further studies. Moreover, multiple research methods should be employed, and various influencing factors should be comprehensively considered to propose comprehensive, detailed, and targeted interventions.
