Low risk (score 0–2) — early discharge possible
How to use it
- 1
Pre-endoscopy (clinical) score. First 3 items only (age, shock, comorbidity) = pre-endoscopy Rockall (0–7).
- 2
Add endoscopic items after OGD. Diagnosis and stigmata complete the score.
- 3
Score 0. ~0.2% rebleed, ~0% mortality — immediate discharge feasible (Blatchford-0 preferred).
When to use it
- Upper GI bleeding triage
- Rockall + Glasgow-Blatchford together for risk stratification (NICE 2016).
- Discharge planning
- Clinical Rockall ≤2 + GBS = 0: suitable for outpatient OGD next day.
- ICU vs. ward
- Full Rockall ≥8: rebleeding >33%, mortality >40%.
