Integrating the kosichenko oncology barrier index (k-obi) into simulation-based cosmetology education: A conceptual framework for professional boundaries
By Anna Kosichenko.
Abstract
Clients receiving or recovering from anticancer therapy may seek aesthetic skin care while treatment -related cutaneous adverse events and impaired barrier function make routine procedures unsuitable. Aesthetic professionals are not licensed to interpret these changes, and structured education on modifying, postponing, or declining a procedure remains limited. The aim of this study was the conceptual substantiation of an evidence -informed framework for integrating the Kosichenko Oncology Barrier Index (K -OBI) into simulation-based cosmetology education, with emphasis on professional boundaries, referral decisions, and client safety. A focused narrative review and conceptual analysis compared the published structure of K -OBI with supportive oncology guidance and simulation education standards. The analysis produced four decision zone s ( conservative care, modification or postponement, medical referral, and a non -diagnostic boundary), each linked to observable learner actions, scenario design, debriefing, and assessment. K -OBI is positioned as a non- diagnostic educational framework requiring independent validation and pilot testing.
