Ayurveda's role in preventing communicable diseases: A holistic approach
By 2Dr. Rushikesh N. Malhare 1*Prof. Dr. K. K. Jadhav.
Abstract
Communicable diseases, caused by infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, continue to pose a significant threat to global public health. While modern medicine focuses on pathogen-specific treatments and vaccinations, Ayurveda offers a holistic framework for prevention through the enhancement of host immunity (Vyadhikshamatva) and environmental purification. This article explores Ayurvedic concepts such as Janapadodhwansa (epidemics), Sadvritta (code of conduct), Dhoopana (fumigation), and Rasayana (rejuvenation) in preventing the spread of infections. By integrating ancient wisdom with modern hygiene practices, Ayurveda provides a sustainable approach to mitigating the burden of communicable diseases.
