By AKARSHIT MAURYA AKARSHIT MAURYA.
Abstract
The Science of Yoga Therapy: Principles and Disease-Specific Management is an academic and practical reference book that presents Yoga Therapy through a systematic, disease-specific, and evidence-informed approach. The book has been developed with special reference to UGC-NET Yoga Unit VIII — Yoga Therapy, making it particularly useful for Yoga students, UGC-NET/JRF/SET aspirants, research scholars, Yoga teachers, and Yoga therapists. The book begins with the foundations of Yoga Therapy, including its meaning, objectives, scope, principles, therapeutic methods, and yogic lifestyle. It further introduces an integrated approach through the Panchakosha framework, connecting traditional yogic concepts with a broader understanding of health and well-being. The major part of the book focuses on the yogic management of specific diseases and disorders. It covers respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine and metabolic, gynecological, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, and psychiatric disorders. Each condition is discussed through its definition, types, causes and risk factors, signs and symptoms, complications, yogic perspective, therapeutic practices, lifestyle management, and necessary precautions. Along with disease-wise content, the book includes UGC-NET/JRF/SET key points and multiple-choice questions for examination preparation and quick revision. Modern medical understanding and traditional yogic principles are presented together to provide readers with a balanced and meaningful understanding of Yoga Therapy. Overall, this book aims to serve as a structured academic resource for the study, teaching, practice, and further research of Yoga Therapy.
