Abstract
Early recognition of drug-induced posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is crucial, as timely discontinuation of the offending agent and supportive management typically result in rapid and complete recovery. We have presented a case of imatinib induced PRES after 5 weeks of therapy for a gastrointestinal stromal tumour in a 38-year-old woman highlighting the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion for new-onset neurological symptoms in patients receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), even those not primarily targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathways.
