Robotic Cardiac Surgery is on the Rise
By Mohamed Eldeiry, Jay D. Pal and Yihan Lin.
Abstract
programs rely on two surgeons during their developmental phase, this approach may become increasingly difficult to sustain as programs mature and case volumes grow.Consequently, our specialty should establish structured, dedicated training pathways, potentially including simulation-based curricula and formal certification, that make robotic bedside expertise a desirable and recognized skill for advanced practice providers. In many respects, this evolution may parallel the widespread adoption of endoscopic conduit harvesting, which transformed a once specialized capability into an integral component of modern coronary surgery.Robotic cardiac surgery has progressed from isolated centers of excellence to a growing national movement. As advances continue to be made in the field, there remains a fruitful opportunity for expanding access through durable programs, comprehensive team training, and the development of future leaders capable of bringing robotic cardiac surgery to the next generation of institutions.
