Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) calculator
Result
mRS 0
Excellent outcome
How to use it
- 1
mRS 0–2 = functional independence. Primary endpoint of thrombectomy and thrombolysis trials.
- 2
Assess pre-morbid mRS. Baseline mRS > 2 affects treatment decisions and outcome interpretation.
- 3
90-day assessment. Standard endpoint in acute stroke trials.
When to use it
- Thrombectomy outcome reporting
- DAWN/DEFUSE used mRS 0–2 at 90 days as primary endpoint.
- Disability for rehabilitation
- mRS 3–4 at discharge: intensive rehab indicated.
- Anticoagulation in AF stroke
- mRS ≤3 supports OAC initiation within 1–2 weeks.
