Pediatría, educación en la era de la predicción, ¿cómo acompañar?

Abstract
Therapeutic education in T1D has evolved from a reactive approach to a proactive and individualized precision healthcare model, where educational interventions are adapted to the biology, environment, and developmental stage of each patient. Presymptomatic Stages (Phases 1 and 2) Training begins before clinical manifestation, transforming learning into a precision prevention tool: Stage 1 (Autoimmunity with normoglycemia): Marked by the presence of autoantibodies. The intervention educates on the perception of biological risk and promotes preventive metabolic monitoring. Stage 2 (Autoimmunity with dysglycemia): Training focuses on precision monitoring using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. The educational objective is early detection to prevent ketoacidosis at onset. Omic Approach: Families are educated on how unique genetic profiles guide the response to future immunotherapies and personalized diets, moving beyond the "one-size-fits-all" model. Clinical Stage (Stage 3) Begins with formal diagnosis and the onset of symptoms (polyuria, polydipsia, weight loss), requiring a high-density technical deployment: Survival Skills: Immediate training in the accurate administration of insulin, self-monitoring, and nutritional adjustment. Digital Literacy: Led by nursing staff, it focuses on assessing prior technical skills and training in the use of insulin pumps, sensors, and mobile applications. Age-Based Personalization: Implementation of dynamic and interactive strategies (such as gamification or messaging support) to optimize adherence in children and adolescents. Continuing Education and Psychosocial Support Emotional well-being is integrated across all phases of the life cycle: Managing uncertainty: Accurate diagnosis based on molecular data reduces family anxiety and aligns expectations regarding the disease course. Peer support: Guidance on the responsible use of online communities to complement formal learning with emotional support. Mental health care: Timely psychological intervention during critical milestones—such as technological transitions or the onset of complications—to mitigate diabetes-related distress and depression. In conclusion, modern education in type 1 diabetes empowers individuals through the interpretation of biological data and digital tools, ensuring high-value therapeutic care.
