Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present more fundamentally the natural metabolism of science and the scientific journal, partly using examples from radiology. The journal article is the main tool and practice of the researcher in converting personal knowledge into public knowledge for its verification and pragmatic realization. In national medicine and radiology, there is a problem of long-term preservation of knowledge (the work of scientists and state finances) and its accessibility against the backdrop of the emergence of new journals and their disappearance. If earlier there was a problem with the publication of articles due to the shortage of journals and the queue for publication, now there is a problem with the shortage of high-quality content articles. Virtually all significant results in the exact sciences (at least in the English-speaking world) can be found in the pages of just two journals: “Nature” and “Science”. Lotka’s law is mentioned in the aspect of the scientific literature citation system as a means of tracking the development of science. Attention is drawn to the formation of a new subspecialty – medical writers (since 1940). The replication crisis is described (possibly caused by human factors), a methodological crisis in which the results of many scientific studies are difficult or impossible to reproduce. The mobilization of science in the journal “Radiation diagnostics, radiation therapy” during the COVID-19 pandemic is considered using the example of articles “Low-dose radiation therapy for COVID-19 pneumonia”, “COVID-modulated emphysematous pyelonephritis against the background of severe course of oxygen-dependent covid pneumonia” та “Echocardiographic characteristics of complicated course of coronavirus infection in children (COVID-19) (review and portfolio)”. The bibliometrics of the journal “Radiology” (journal of the Radiological Society of North America.) are presented for comparison: the most viewed articles of 2021 and the most cited articles of 2021. It is demonstrated that the topic of the most cited articles of 2023 is artificial intelligence.
