Abstract
Background
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition in which there is intolerance to glucose with first recognition in pregnancy with an elevated risk of perinatal morbidity. Irisin has a role in the metabolism of glucose and lipids which may prove to be an early diagnostic marker for future GDM development. The aim of this study was to compare the levels of irisin in pregnant women having GDM and healthy controls, for any correlation between glycaemic factors and irisin.
