Abstract
Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a hepatic vascular disorder characterized by the presence of a thrombus with the portal vein trunk or its intrahepatic branches. The most frequent cause of PVT is chronic liver disease, in particular liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, both of which significantly impact morbidity and mortality. Evaluating clinical, etiological and hematological factors together with thrombus localization may improve understanding of disease progression and patient management.
