Riccati Based H∞ Observer-Controller Synthesis of Multiple Time Delayed Systems with Application to Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
The presence time delay in state information of a dynamical system may exhibit instability and poor closed-loop performance. Based on Riccati’s equation, it is extended to solve multiple time delayed systems. The proposed method is applied and demonstrated for insulin delivery in order to maintain plasma glycemic concentration. Precise insulin information shows that the pro-posed controller technique is able to maintain glycemic level around desired normal patient. Compare to a well established PID controller, the proposed optimal controller fulfilling H∞ performance has better performance.
