Abstract
******* In Mozambique, Plasmodium falciparum is the most prevalent, with more than 90% of all infections caused by malaria, and is one of the infections for which selective screening is recommended, to exclude donations with risk of transmission of infection from donor to donor. recipient, to ensure that the transfusion is as safe as possible. The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum in blood bags at the Xai-Xai Provincial Hospital from December 2023 to January 2024. As for its methodology, it is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, where a rapid search for Plasmodium falciparum was carried out in blood bags, in 109 blood samples from voluntary donors and replacements, without clots, without hemolysis, with the donor and bottle numbers correctly registered, as well as the date of collection. Sampling was simple random probabilistic. Regarding the results of the 109 samples researched, only 0.91% (1/109) were positive, and the remaining 99.08% (108/109) were negative donors. In conclusion, this is why the prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum in blood donors, from the HPXX Blood Bank, in the months of December 2023 and January 2024 was low, which is why it is suggested that collection processes continue to be improved, transport and packaging of samples until their use.
