When Expected Lung Function Becomes Unattainable: Predicted–Observed Spirometric Deficits in Long-Term Jute Dust Exposure

Abstract
Background
Comparison of obtained spirometric measurements with predicted reference values provides a standardized method for identifying pulmonary impairment associated with occupational dust exposure.
Methods
A comparative observational study included 50 apparently healthy males aged 30–40 years: 25 non-dust-exposed controls and 25 jute mill workers with at least 10 years of occupational exposure. Predicted and obtained values of FVC, FEV₁, PEF, FEF₅₀ and FEV₁/FVC were compared, and obtained values were expressed as percentages of predicted values.
