To TTV or Not to TTV? A Combined Urinary Biomarker Approach in Kidney Transplant Recipients Using Torque Teno Virus, Cell-Free DNA, and BK Polyomavirus Measurements

Abstract
Background
Noninvasive biomarkers capable of detecting kidney allograft injury and distinguishing rejection from infection remain an important clinical need. Torque teno virus (TTV) reflects host immune status, but its utility in urine has not been well established. We evaluated urinary TTV, total cell-free DNA (cfDNA), cfDNA fragmentation, and BK polyomavirus (BKV) as potential biomarkers of kidney transplant rejection and BK polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (BKPyVAN).
