Abstract
The widespread prescription of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (AIDS), pain control is a crucial component of orthopaedic treatment. Inappropriate use in terms of dosage and duration might lower therapeutic results and raise the possibility of negative medication reactions. The purpose of this study was to assess the orthopedic department of a tertiary care teaching hospital's NSAID and analgesic prescription pattern, dosage, andduration.Patients who visited the orthopedic outpatient and inpatient departments during the study period participated in a prospective observational study. A systematic data collection form was used to gather information on patient demographics, diagnosis, prescribed NSAIDs and analgesics, dosage, frequency, length of therapy, and usage of gastroprotective medications. Descriptive statistics were used to study the prescriptions, and conventional treatment recommendations were used to determine their logic. The results showed that paracetamol and diclofenac were the most often utilizedmedications, and that NSAIDs were frequently administered either alone or in combination. There were some cases of prolonged usage and insufficient gastroprotection, even though the majority of prescriptions followed the specifieddosage and duration. In order to guarantee the sensible and secure use of NSAIDs and analgesics in orthopedic practice, the study emphasizes the necessity of routine prescription audits and clinical pharmacist engagement.
