Abstract
Periorbital hyperpigmentation, commonly known as dark circles, is a widespread cosmetic concern associated with pigmentation, fatigue, oxidative stress, poor microcirculation, and dehydration. The present study aimed to formulate and evaluate a polyherbal under-eye roll-on containing mulberry (Morus alba) leaf extract, liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) extract, chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) flower extract, rose water, caffeine, glycerine, and sodium benzoate. The herbal extracts were prepared using hydro-alcoholic and aqueous extraction methods and incorporated into the roll-on formulation. The prepared formulation was evaluated for organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, washability, stability, and skin irritation. The formulation exhibited a smooth and homogeneous appearance, pleasant odour, suitable consistency, and good spreadability. The pH was within the acceptable range for topical application. Stability studies showed no significant changes in colour, odour, or consistency under the tested conditions. No visible signs of redness, itching, or irritation were observed during the skin irritation test. The findings indicate that the developed polyherbal roll-on possesses satisfactory physicochemical characteristics and topical tolerability and may serve as a potential herbal cosmetic preparation for under-eye care.
