Stress fractures: classification, imaging features and the role of magnetic resonance imaging, with emphasis on subchondral insufficiency fractures
By PLESCAN TATIANA and Cristina Piclon-Mirca.
Abstract
Main elements of the article Question: How should the injury mechanism, anatomical location, and imaging findings be integrated for the diagnosis and management of stress fractures and subchondral insufficiency fractures? Importance: Radiographs may be normal early, and isolated interpretation of bone marrow edema may lead to both underdiagnosis and overdiagnosis. Novelty: The review brings together mechanical classification, anatomical risk stratification, prognostic imaging criteria, and implications for rehabilitation within a single clinical framework.
