Exo-systems medicine - a biophysical framework for vata dosha disruption in microgravity
By V. Luongo.
Abstract
TITLE: Exo-Systems Medicine: a biophysical framework for Vata Dosha disruption in Microgravity (0g) Description This theoretical contribution introduces Exo-Systems Medicine, a novel, falsifiable biophysical framework that formalizes "Vata Dosha Displacement" in weightlessness as the ensemble dysregulation of fluid transport, cytoskeletal pre-stress, and circadian timekeeping. Moving beyond traditional organ-by-organ descriptions, the paper proposes that the loss of continuous mechanical loading acts as a distinct, non-photic circadian Zeitgeber, mediated by cytoskeletal tensegrity and primary cilia. To ensure rigorous scientific validity, the framework provides an explicit two-arm orbital reporter-cell experiment as a falsifier and introduces an operational circadian phase-dispersion metric testable on existing multi-omic spaceflight archives (such as the NASA Twins Study). Furthermore, the paper outlines a translational research agenda under a P4 Medicine paradigm (predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory) addressing terrestrial conditions characterized by similar input losses, such as prolonged immobility, intensive-care sedation, shift-work rotation, and advanced age.
