Epidural Injection in Patients with Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation and Radicular Pain: A Narrative Review
By Irakli Shelia.
Abstract
This narrative review examines the role of epidural injection in patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and radicular pain. It summarizes contemporary evidence regarding epidural steroid injections, including transforaminal, interlaminar, and caudal approaches, clinical effectiveness, patient selection, safety, and image-guided treatment. Particular attention is given to short-term pain reduction, functional improvement, rehabilitation, and the limitations of long-term clinical benefit.
