Policy Brief: Ending Preventable Stillbirths in The Gambia
By Uduak A. Okomo, Uchenna Gwacham-Anisiobi, Oghenebrume Wariri and 2 others.
Abstract
This policy brief describes the burden of stillbirths in The Gambia, examines why stillbirths persist in the country, and proposes evidence-based actions required to address the problem. The brief was developed following a national policy engagement meeting convened on 6 May 2026 by MRC Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the On Tackling In-Transit delays for Mothers in Emergency (OnTIME) Consortium based at LSHTM, the Ministry of Health, and partners to review evidence and identify priorities for reducing preventable stillbirths in The Gambia.
