Role of Selected Yoga Prectices in Hypothyroidism- A Review
By Ved Prakash Gupta and Dr. Mandavi Gupta.
Abstract
Hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine disorders around the world. It occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones, which can affect the body's metabolism, physical functions, and overall health. The symptoms of this condition are often not very specific and may include tiredness, gaining weight, sensitivity to cold, trouble with bowel movements, difficulty in focusing, and other symptoms related to metabolism and the nervous system. In Ayurveda, the thyroid gland is not clearly identified as a separate body part, but the classical condition known as Galganda, which is mainly marked by swelling in the neck area, has been linked by some scholars to thyroid-related issues. Because hypothyroidism is becoming more common and requires ongoing treatment with thyroid hormones, there is growing interest in alternative therapies, such as Ayurved and Yoga for treatments.
