Abstract
Sandhigata Vata, correlated to osteoarthritis of the knee joint, is a common degenerative disorder predominantly affecting the middle-aged (>40yrs) and elderly population. It is characterized by Vatapurnadrutisparsha, Sandhi sotha and Prasarana akunchana pravruti savedana due to vitiation of Vata Dosha. Ayurvedic classics emphasize Snehana and Swedana as prime modalities in its management. Janu Basti, a localized external therapy, provides both these effects and is widely used in clinical practice.
