Prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and its association with dyslipidemia: A hospital-based retrospective cohort study
By C. Revandh.
Abstract
Introduction
Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most common endocrine disorders and is an established secondary cause of dyslipidaemia. Altered thyroid hormone levels influence lipid metabolism by affecting hepatic LDL receptor activity, cholesterol synthesis, and triglyceride clearance, thereby increasing cardiovascular risk. However, large hospital-based data evaluating the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and its association with dyslipidaemia in the Indian population remain limited. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction across age and sex groups and evaluate its association with dyslipidaemia in a tertiary care hospital cohort.
