By K Vishak Acharya, Thomas Antony, Anu Priya and 1 others.
Abstract
A BSTRACT Inhalation of detergent chemicals in an occupational setting can cause various lung symptoms depending on the degree and duration of the exposure. Hazards of exposure to chemicals in soap and detergent workers have not often been reported. The direction is more of a mixed complex pneumoconiosis involving exposure to multiple chemicals. Silica is one of the predominant ingredients used in soap manufacturing. Here, we present three cases of soap factory workers following exposure to the same chemicals but with varied presentations. A detailed history excluded other possible exposures in these cases. The three distinct diseases in similar occupational exposure are probably due to genetic factors and the interaction of various agents inciting occupational lung disease. Further, the report emphasises the importance of applying protective gear and regular health check-ups to prevent lung diseases.
