Abstract
The specific tests are sought in parasports. Adaptations of repeated sprint ability (RSA) tests are typical methods for team games to assess anaerobic performance. The validity of the new test should be verified. This study aimed to check if the new specific RSA test for wheelchair fencing (WF) is valid to assess anaerobic performance. Thirteen national WF team athletes conducted the RSA test and the 30 s Wingate Anaerobic Test on an arm crank ergometer (ACE). We observed the absolute and relative mean (MP) and peak (PP) power. The power decrement (PD) and the work (W) were calculated. Bland-Altman plots were used to assess the validity of the RSA test. The T-test was used to calculate differences between the RSA and WAnT test results. There were no differences in PP (p > 0.072), but the W was different (the RSA test work > the 30 s WAnT work, p < 0.001). The Bland-Altman plots showed the agreement between measurements. In conclusion, the new RSA test protocol is valid. This test can be used to assess specific anaerobic performance in WF athletes.
