Abstract
Gastritis is inflammation of the gastric mucosa commonly experienced by university students due to irregular eating habits, stress, and unhealthy lifestyles. Gastritis-related pain can interfere with academic activities, requiring non-pharmacological management such as deep breathing relaxation techniques and finger grip therapy. This study aimed to determine the effect of combining deep breathing relaxation techniques and finger grip therapy on pain intensity among nursing students with gastritis at Yatsi Madani University in 2026. This quantitative study used a one-group pre-test-post-test design without a control group. The population consisted of 951 students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at Yatsi Madani University, and 30 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The mean pain intensity before the intervention was 3.90 ± 0.935, while after the intervention it decreased to 1.33 ± 0.606. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed Z = -4.861 with p < 0.001 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the combined intervention on reducing pain intensity. The combination of deep breathing relaxation techniques and finger grip therapy is effective in reducing pain intensity among nursing students with gastritis at Yatsi Madani University in 2026.
