Abstract
Background
Acute variceal bleeding may precipitate hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis. The albumin–bilirubin (ALBI) score offers an objective estimate of hepatic reserve based only on serum albumin and bilirubin. This study evaluated its ability to predict hepatic encephalopathy after a first episode of acute variceal bleeding.
