Abstract
Tubular kidney injury biomarkers in workers exposed to occupational heat: a scoping review Repository of materials for a scoping review conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Team: Leonardo Cooper Silva, Eduardo Rayón Reyes, Rolando Vilasau Domínguez Affiliation: Department of Epidemiology and Health Studies, School of Medicine, Universidad de los Andes. Santiago, Chile. Last updated: 13 October 2026 Status: title and abstract screening in progress --- Review question Which tubular kidney injury biomarkers have been used to assess early kidney damage in workers exposed to occupational heat, in which populations and occupational settings, and with which methodological measurement decisions? Contents 01_Protocol File Description `Protocol_v2_2026-10-11.pdf` Current protocol. Covers the review question, objectives, PCC framework, eligibility criteria, search strategy, selection process, extraction fields and synthesis plan. Section 10 details the changes from version 1. `Protocol_v2_2026-10-11.docx` Same version in editable format. Version 1 of the protocol, registered in April 2026, is retained unchanged in the original registration and is not superseded in place. 02_Search File Description `Search_strategies_v2.pdf` Full search strings by database, with database-specific syntax, filters applied, number of results, sensitivity check and a list of the previous reviews identified. `Search_strategies_v2.docx` Same version in editable format. `Export_PubMed_2026-10-07.nbib` 225 records, PubMed format with abstract and Publication Type. `Export_Scopus_2026-10-07.ris` 284 records, RIS format with abstract and keywords. `Export_WebOfScience_2026-10-07.ris` 305 records, RIS format with full record. 03_Screening File Description `Screening_records_v2.xlsx` 406 unique records after deduplication. Three sheets: Screening, holding both reviewers' decisions with automatic disagreement detection; PRISMA summary, with flow diagram counts and observed agreement; Search record, with the execution parameters. 04_Extraction File Description `Data_extraction_template.xlsx` Template covering the 28 extraction fields defined in section 9 of the protocol, with dropdown lists and an instructions sheet. Completed once full-text selection has finished. --- Search flow Stage Records PubMed 225 Scopus 284 Web of Science 305 Total identified in databases 814 Duplicates removed 408 Unique records to screen 406 Deduplication was performed through DOI matching and, where absent, normalised title matching. An additional search arm supplements these records: reference list checking of the previous reviews identified, and forward citation tracking of the included studies. Note on protocol version 2 Version 1 defined the object of the review as "early kidney damage biomarkers", without distinguishing between tubular injury markers and kidney function markers, and its search strategy did not incorporate biomarker names. Subsequent verification showed that this strategy failed to retrieve known relevant studies in the field. Version 2 rebuilds the strategy, extends the temporal window back to the year 2000, adds Portuguese to the languages admitted, and reformulates the question around tubular injury biomarkers and the methodological decisions governing their measurement. Full detail is given in section 10 of the protocol. All changes were adopted before screening of the new record set began. Licence CC-BY 4.0
