A Biomechanical Analysis and Comparison of Prior Injury History in Professional Baseball Pitchers on the Basis of Stride Length
By Joseph Manzi MD, Brittany Dowling MS, William Xu MSE and 7 others.
Abstract
Background
Stride length in professional pitchers has been noted to have mixed relationships with elbow varus torque and possible favorable contributions to pitch velocity; however, stride length has never been evaluated in the context of prior injury history. Purpose/Hypothesis: To discern if professional baseball pitchers on the basis of stride length demonstrate any difference in core, upper, or lower extremity prior injury history. The authors hypothesize that pitchers with increased stride length would have equivalent prior overall injury history and potentially fewer medial elbow injuries. Study Design: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.
