Abstract
Abstract Background Hip pain is one of the most common presentig symptoms in patients with degenerative and mechanical hip disorders, often serving as the primary reason for seeking medical or physical treatment. Patients may experience hip pain with varying intensities and different anatomical regions around the affected hip. Purpose To investigate the relationship between global hip pain severity and pressure pain threshold values measured at different anatomical regions associated with hip pain in patients with degenerative or mechanical hip disorders. Methods Volunteer 43 patients (30 women, 13 men) with degenerative or mechanic hip disorders without any operations or acute trauma included in this study. Global hip pain severity (activity and rest) was assessed with Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Pressure pain thresholds were measured by using Algometer. The religions for this assessment were M. Iliopsoas, M. Quadriceps body, proximal part and distal part, M. Adductor Longus, M. Gluteus Medius, M. Priformis, M. Tensor Fascia Latea, Sacroiliac joint and Trochanter Major. Spearman ‘s rank correlation coefficient, a non-parametric method was used to assess the relationships between variables. Results A very weak negative correlation was found between VAS rest score and threshold values of M. Iliopsoas (p:-0.149), M. Quadriceps body (p:-0.095), M. Quadriceps proximal (p:-0.012), M. Quadriceps distal (p:-0.103), M. Adductor Longus (p:-0.123), M. Gluteus medius (p:-0.006), M. Priformis (p:-0.111), Trochanter major (p:-0.116). A very weak positive correlation was found between VAS rest score and M. Tensor Fascia Latea (p:0.053), Sacroiliac joint (p:0.006). Also it was found a very weak negative correlation between VAS activity score and threshold values of M. Ilıopsoas (p:-0.179), M. Quadriceps body (p:-0.119), M. Quadriceps proximal (p:-0.061), M. Quadriceps distal (p:-0.066), M. Adductor Longus (p:-0.179), M. Tensor Fascia Latea (p:-0.048), Sacroiliac joint (p:-0.157), Trochanter majör (p:-0.060) similary. There was weak correlation between VAS activity and M. Gluteus medius (p:-0.254), M. Priformis (p:-0.215). Conclusion Pain is an important point of determination the treatment of hip disorders. These results show that global pain and regional pain may feel different. The assessment of a patient with hip problems, it is essential to evaluate not only overall pain but also region-specific anatomical points. The application targetted, region specific treatment approaches may result in more effective symptom relief.
