Abstract
This study aimed to (1) assess the acute impact of a simulated karate bout (SKB) on inter-limb peak vertical force (PVF) and RFD asymmetry of the lower limbs in elite athletes (U16, U18, Seniors), accordingly to the outcome of the SKB (victory/defeat) and to (2) indicate, which lower limb: dominant (DLL)/non-dominant (NDLL) is characterized with greater post-bout changes of the kinetic performance. Sixty-one elite karatekas participated in this study, which included a randomized crossover design. Asymmetry levels were evaluated based on the isometric mid-thigh pull test. Regardless of the age category and condition, higher changes in the inter-limb PVF and RFD asymmetry profile of the analyzed lower extremities tended to occur in winners. Successful outcome in karate bout may be associated with higher changes in the inter-limb strength asymmetry profile. The level of muscular strength and athlete’s ability to generate its high levels in limited time span (RFD) in the non-dominant lower limb may be essential for performance outcomes in karate bout. Karate bout may potentially induce acute karate-specific biomechanical changes, which may possibly impact on the inter-limb strength asymmetry levels in the lower extremities.
