Accurately estimating unmet transplant need is essential for planning equitable transplantation services- authors’ reply

Abstract
We thank Jha and colleagues for their valuable insights. Their concerns on our use of age-standardised rates, multiplied by total population to obtain counts is appreciated.1 However, we contend that age standardised rates exist to compare populations with different age structures, not to reconstruct case counts. Case countsrequire age-specific rates applied to age-specific denominators. This is exactly what our 2040 projections show-burden for all four organs rose by nearly the same factor, reflecting population growth alone.
