Summary: Background: The optimal duration of systemic antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) for Gustilo–Anderson type IIIA and IIIB open tibial fractures remains uncertain. We compared 2-day versus 3-day prophylaxis in patients treated at a level I trauma centre.
