Safety products. The Intravenous Nurses Society
Abstract
The Intravenous Nurses Society recognizes the importance of engineering and work practice controls to minimize or eliminate occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. However, such controls must be carefully balanced to maximize patient care and minimize personnel risk. Decisions regarding the development, selection, and use of such products must take into consideration: patient safety, desired therapeutic outcomes, ethical considerations, effective use of resources and cost, and practitioner protection.
