Current Guidelines for the Management of Benign Prostatic Obstruction: Practical Tips for Patient Selection to Achieve Optimal Outcomes
Abstract
A variety of treatment options are available for benign prostate obstruction (BPO) causing lower urinary tract symptoms. A shared decision-making approach with the patient is crucial before proceeding with BPO surgery. Patient characteristics, preferences, and expectations should be taken into account when weighing up the risks and benefits of each option for individual cases. PATIENT SUMMARY: Our guideline describes factors to consider when doctors and their patients make shared decisions on which treatment options are best for a benign enlarged prostate causing urinary symptoms.
