Resumen
White piedra is a superficial mycosis caused by species of the genus Trichosporon. It is asymptomatic, has a chronic course, and is characterized by white or brown nodules on the hair shaft, mainly on the scalp. We present the case of a six-year-old female patient with a six-month history of white, translucent, soft nodules on the hair shaft. Trichoscopy and direct examination revealed a yellowish-white nodule with rounded borders on the hair shaft. Therefore, the diagnosis of white piedra was confirmed. Topical treatment was administered with satisfactory results after six weeks. The diagnosis is clinical and confirmed by microscopy, culture, or molecular testing. The main treatment recommendation is cutting the affected hair. Appropriate management with topical antifungals combined with keratolytic agents proved effective in this case.
