Fatal multiple organ dysfunction syndrome induced by colchicine poisoning in a patient with underlying alcoholic liver disease: a case report
By Xiao C, Yu Y, He S and 1 others.
Abstract
Background
Colchicine is a drug used primarily to treat and prevent gout. Yet its narrow therapeutic index makes the lethal dose highly variable, influenced by patient-specific factors such as hepatic function and concomitant medications. In vulnerable patients, even doses substantially below the traditionally cited lethal threshold can result in fatal outcomes.
