Abstract / Summary
Congenital cataract is a significant cause of visual impairment in children and may interfere with normal visual development during critical periods of ocular maturation. Although early surgical treatment can restore the transparency of the visual axis, children frequently experience substantial refractive changes during postoperative growth. These changes may affect visual acuity, binocular function, and the long-term development of the visual system. Objective: This article examines the mechanisms underlying refractive changes following congenital cataract surgery in children, evaluates contemporary diagnostic approaches, and discusses prognostic methods that may improve individualized clinical management.
