Uji Staphylococcus aureus Pada Produk Kosmetik : Studi Literatur
By Nania Putri Aldinov and Irdawati.
Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus testing in cosmetic products is a microbiological examination performed to detect pathogenic bacterial contamination that may affect product safety. Contaminated cosmetics can pose health risks, particularly when applied repeatedly to the skin and face. This study used a literature review approach by analyzing scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 on the occurrence of Staphylococcus aureus in cosmetic products. Literature sources were obtained from Google Scholar and other scientific databases using keywords related to cosmetics, microbial contamination, and Staphylococcus aureus. The review showed that several cosmetic products, including liquid lipsticks, compact powders, organic masks, facial creams, and tester cosmetics, were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus. Contamination was associated with repeated use, inadequate sanitation, improper storage conditions, prolonged use after opening, and environmental exposure. The presence of Staphylococcus aureus may cause skin irritation, acne, dermatitis, and other skin infections. Therefore, microbiological quality control and proper consumer practices are necessary to ensure cosmetic safety.
