Integrative Management of Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndrome: A Case Report of Acupuncture and Shirodhara
By Jaya Satyal, Rachana KC, Pradeep Kc and 4 others.
Abstract
Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) are rare immune-mediated disorders associated with malignancy and can cause progressive neurological dysfunction. A 26-year-old male presented with progressive ataxia, impaired balance, slurred speech, limb weakness, and difficulty with fine motor activities. He received conventional symptomatic treatment along with acupuncture and Shirodhara for 14 days. Following treatment, gait, speech, and muscle power improved markedly, with the SARA score decreasing from 33 to 9. This case suggests that acupuncture combined with Shirodhara may offer potential complementary symptomatic benefits in PNS, although further controlled studies are needed.
