Distribution of ABO and Rh (D) Blood Groups Among Blood Donors at a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital in Bagalkot, Karnataka, India: A Cross-Sectional Study
By Keshav R Kulkarni Prasad D. Potdar.
Abstract
Background
The ABO and Rh (D) blood group systems remain the most clinically significant typing systems in transfusion medicine. Regional variation in blood group frequencies necessitates institution-specific studies to guide local blood bank inventory management and transfusion policies.
Aim
To determine the distribution of ABO and Rh (D) blood groups among donors registered at the blood bank of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Bagalkot, North Karnataka. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 700 blood donors. ABO and Rh typing was performed by standard tube agglutination technique using commercially available monoclonal antisera (anti-A, anti-B, anti-AB, anti-D). Data were compiled and analysed using Microsoft Excel; frequencies and percentages were computed for each blood group category.
